My story
Pearl originally came to the shelter because she had an infected uterus and her owners were unable to pay for medical care. After surgery Pearl was doing great and was made available for adoption! While at the shelter, staff found that Pearl can be possessive of her toys and her food; because of this Pearl must go to a home WITHOUT children under 5 years, although she otherwise does very well with them. Pearl may be able to overcome her possession aggression with the assistance of a trainer; to mitigate this issue, Pearl's new owner should be consistent about keeping toys, treats and food picked up if there is another dog around so that there is nothing around to cause a problem. Pearl does well with other dogs and has great greeting manners, although we always encourage potential adopters to bring in other canine members of the household for a mutual visit before adopting to help ensure she is a good fit. Pearl came back to the shelter as a stray after 6 months in her adoptive home; no one appeared to retrieve her. Pearl is a friendly, enthusiastic, and loving girl who just wants to enjoy life and find a FOREVER forever home. Pearl's enthusiasm can be put to good use in gentle daily exercise to help her shed a few pesky pounds that will make her fitter and more healthy in the long run.
