  My story

Parker is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag and a kiss. What isn't clear in this shelter photo is how truly beautiful this dog is with his white and fawn coat and dark eyes that hold so much wisdom. Once this gorgeous guy gets a sudsy bath and grooming...he will absolutely be one of the most adorable guys around. There's a bit of controversy regarding Parker's age. It's very difficult to assess an older dog's age accurately because the only criteria that's available is the condition of their teeth. In most rescue situations however, the dog has either been fed very low-quality dog food or more frequently, the dogs have been subsisting on scraps from the streets. It's for these reasons that Parker has been identified as three different ages by three vets. The shelter vet identified Parker as 13 years old. The in-town Texas vet felt that he's just about 12 and our foster's vet guessed that he's 11 years of pure love. While we have no idea of Parker's exact age, we do know he will be a gift to a family that is searching for a very sweet, lower energy, low maintenance guy. He has a lovely disposition and loves his people more than anything. He'll choose a loving lap or a warm spot beside his special people 100% of the time.It has been found by our rescue vet that Parker has mild cataracts...but don't tell him that he's compromised. He's a happy and healthy guy who isn't aware of sight (or any other) limitations. Parker has been through so much in his life. The stress and environmental challenges like fleas/ticks that Parker has suffered through has resulted in skin dermatitis (unfortunately so common in dogs from the humid south). Following Farfel's Rescue speaking up to save Parker's life, he was immediately put on antibiotics for his skin as well as oral meds and soothing supplements such as salmon oil. Parker's coat is responding very well and vets anticipate that his hair will be fluffy and cottony-soft within a short time. Parker tends to be every bit the happy-go-lucky and fun-loving guy. But at the same time he is a very well-behaved dog (once he's used to his environment) who is so sweet, very loving and a perfect full-time companion. Parker is very likely to express himself with his wagging tail and excited kisses of love for those that are kind to him. At this point in Parker's development, he loves almost everyone..be it human or canine. We want to nurture this positive vision of the world by matching Parker to a family who expresses their pure love and respect for him in many different ways. We also feel he would be most comfortable with retirees or an adult family who works part-time, from a home office or at a pet-friendly workplace. Parker falls deeply in love with his people and is too sensitive to spend the long hours alone in the home of a family that works full-time hours.Right now, Parker is a blank slate who will soak up positive feedback with every effort to be the best behaved and most cuddly guy around. Parker is so loving and pleasant that he can easily be a constant companion - he would love nothing more than accompanying his favorite people on trips to the store (he's a great window-shopping friend), lap-sitting at an outdoor restaurant or even a place at a pet-friendly workplace is perfect for Parker's personality. He is flexible enough that he can be introduced to virtually any situation...and if there is love and gentle guidance, Parker can succeed. Parker has the potentially stunning coat and cottony-soft hair that speaks of his breed mix. He is a non-shedding guy (considered by many to be the most hypoallergenic mix available today) and will therefore require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily supplement of salmon oil would be excellent for coat care and longevity) to keep his hair cottony-soft, matt-free and very healthy.Parker will be arriving on transport in Boulder in mid to late December. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.** PLEASE NOTE ** If you're truly interested in adopting Parker, please be sure to submit our Farfel's adoption application that can be found at the link above or by going to farfels.com. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit a Farfel's adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
