My story
Panther is an adorable 1 year old chihuahua/papillon mix. He has long soft fur, and is very cuddly!! He was abandoned at a shelter in TX after his past owners couldn't care for him any longer. Now he is coming to CO to find a forever, loving family to give him a home. He has never had stability, and seeks attention and love from all people. You can tell he just wants to be loves, and a family to call his own. From his foster: Panthers "couldn't be better" qualities, Panther has a GREAT personality. He's eager to spend time with you but is also fairly independent. I can cook or even eat at the table and he will entertain himself with a toy. He has mostly learned to stay off furniture unless his blanket from his crate is on it. He takes that as a welcome to jump on the couch. He loves to snuggle and be close to you while you're on the couch, but will usually wait to be invited. He is playful and energetic and will run up and down the stairs for as long as you cheer him on, but is also a very relaxed and calm dog when you aren't getting him hyped up. He is extremely gentle and very patient--I can pick him up, put my fingers in his mouth, or do whatever annoying thing I feel like and he will completely accept it. I imagine he would do very well with children. He will play as long as they are willing to entertain him, will relax when they feel like relaxing, and doesn't have any biting or nipping tendencies. He does very well on a leash and definitely understands that he should use the bathroom quickly when he is let outside. Panther's "needs improvement" qualities. He can be VERY sneaky... He definitely understands when he is doing something bad and will try to hide it from you if he can. He will take clothes, socks, shoes, whatever he can get to and will hide while he chews on them. He also is potty-trained in the sense that he understands he isn't allowed to use the bathroom inside, but I found out the other day he's been sneaking off into a corner of a room in my house and using the bathroom there when I'm not in the room. He does require a certain degree of supervision and probably should be crated when he's left alone initially. He sleeps in his crate very well, but my experience has been that he needs to be crated in the room with me. I've left him downstairs a few times and he cried for the majority of the night. So long as the crate is in the room with me, he will happily put himself in it whenever he's feeling tired. I crate him whenever I'm not home and I typically have to force him into the crate. He will cry for a while, but I don't think it's ever been for more than 15 minutes or so.Ultimately, he is an extremely sweet dog. I have definitely grown attached to Panther and am genuinely happy to spend time with him. He would be perfect for anyone who is interested in a small dog with a big personality! Even his "needs improvement" qualities are worth the effort because he is such a joy to be around. This sweet boy will be available at our adoption event this coming Saturday at the Fort Collins Petco 2211 S. College Ave from 10am-1pm. If you are interested in this friendly boy, please submit an application through our website aaanimalrescue.org. Please feel free to email with any questions [email protected] and size disclosure: As a rescue all of our dogs come to us from high-kill shelters or other rescues, so we do not get a lot of background or information on these dogs. We occasionally receive the mother with the puppies, but in most cases both parents are unknown. Because of this we do not know the full breeding of the dogs. We are required to list the dogs based on the breeds provided to us on their records, but they are all mixed breeds as far as we know, and we cannot guarantee the actual breeds of any of these dogs. Since the full breeding of the dogs is unknown we can also only give you an educated guess on the full-grown size of the dogs. All of the current information we have on the dogs is listed in their bio above. More information may be available at our adoption event, since a lot of the fosters turn in report cards on how the dog has done in their care when they drop them off. Adoption Process: If you are interested in adopting from us, the first step of our adoption process is to fill out an application online at http://aaanimalrescue.org/adoption_app.html. It takes us 24-48 hours to process your application and get back to you, via email. Applications turned in Friday afternoon or Saturday morning will not be processed since we are preparing for or at our adoption event. We do have applications on site at our events, but are not always able to approve them at that time and many of the dogs will already have holds on them, so we suggest you fill out an application prior to attending an adoption event. We can place a hold on one dog per approved applicant after a deposit fee has been received, please do not ask to hold a dog if you have not turned in an application and been approved, for the first hour of our adoption event, so that they can get the first chance to meet and hopefully adopt that dog. After the first hour of the event all dogs are available on a first come, first serve basis. If you already have an approved application on file, there will just be more paperwork and the adoption fee at the event, but you will be able to take home the dog/puppy that day. Since we are foster based and do not have a location, our dogs are only available to meet at our events, unless otherwise noted.
