Paint/Pinto - West - Large - Adult - Male - Horse

　　West is an approximately 7 year old Paint gelding that is about 14.3 hands tall and weighs about 1,000 pounds. He was in extremely poor condition when he came to NACHS several months ago. He was very thin and he had a wound on his withers (part of the back where the saddle fits) caused by being ridden by a previous owner while in such poor condition. West quickly gained weight with proper feeding/worming and he is now an "easy keeper" and has requires only minimal care since achieving his correct weight. West has a very quiet, sweet disposition and he is very easy to catch, lead and groom. He picks up his feet without problem, ties without problem, hauls in a trailer without problem, and he generally cooperates around the barn in every way. He stays on pasture during good weather and he gets along very well with other horses. The wound on his withers healed with some residual scarring and his adoptive family will need to be very careful to ride him only with a properly fitting saddle and with a thick, properly fitting saddle pad to avoid re-injury to that area. West will probably do best with light riders and should not be considered by very heavy riders. West has been in foster care for several months while he gained weight, his wound healed, and while we waited for his court date so that NACHS could gain ownership and the ability to allow him to be adopted. We do know that West has been ridden a lot in the past but he has not been ridden since being in NACHS custody and therefore no guarantees can given as to his previous level of training under saddle. However, West is a very sweet horse with a willing attitude and we believe that he should do very well after adoption. It is recommended that his adoptive family seek the services of a horse trainer as West transitions back into his job under saddle.
