My name is Oreo! I am 1.5 years old and weigh 18 pounds. I need a new home because I was not able to adjust to my previous home after being rescued from a puppy mill.
I am being fostered in Boulder, CO.
Please read my profile carefully as I need a special family with experience with dogs that lack confidence and from a puppy mill.
I prefer a low active home, no small children, and preferably where I am not crated for long periods of time
I was sold at a puppy mill auction in November 2017 and its clear that someone was very, very mean to me. I find a lot of things very scary because of how I was treated, but Im working on it and improving every day. I will need to be in a home that is very patient with me as we work on my problems, and I want my new family to be aware of them.
I generally feel very vulnerable, and that makes me afraid of people, especially men (my foster parent is a single man), and I also get scared of noises and unfamiliar things. This means I will cringe when you try to pick me up--I may even try to stay away from you rather than be touched. As I get more comfortable with you, I will get more comfortable with you touching me but it will take a little while. Attention has to be on my own terms--I will come to you, want to cuddle with you on the couch, and might want to hide by you if Im anxious, but if you try to come to me I might get scared. Its hard for me to trust people after what Ive been through, but Ill get there.
I want to make a point of saying that even though Im anxious, I am not high strung.
I do not bark or bite or act out in any way, and I am not destructive. I just feel the need to be very careful until I can trust more.
Im working on my house training, but I still make lots of mistakes. Its hard for me to focus on that when Im so afraid, but Im smart and I want to be a good boy so I will learn.
It will just take me some time and Ill need you to work with me.
I love to sit quietly next to you while you read or watch TV. I get along with other dogs just fine, and I like children too as long as they are calm and gentle with me. I think my ideal home would not leave me alone for too long, and would have to be a fairly quiet and peaceful place. Lots of activity and commotion would probably just freak me out. I like to sleep in my crate at night or when youre gone, but I dont want to be left in there all day.
I do fine in the car too!
