ON/Winnie's story

　　Hi there! Im Winnie and am a 4-year-old Brittany looking for my forever home. Though, when I say looking.I dont mean it literally you see, because I am completely blind. I was on the loose for a while with my brother and 4 other Brittanys after a hunt camp just packed up and left us behind to fend for ourselves. It was during this time that they think I lost my sight to SARDS (Sudden Acute Retinal Degeneration) so being blind is still fairly new to me. My brother and I managed to stay safe while on the run, but sadly the others were all shot for chasing deer. Lucky for us, we ended up in NBRANs care and Ive been in a foster home now for a while, learning to live inside and frankly, I LIKE it a lot!

　　I have learned a lot since going blind and living inside a house. I have learned to use my other senses very well since my eyes dont work. I use my nose and ears double time.

　　I have learned to go up and down stairs! (foster mom goes with me though, just in case!) and I am learning commands like steps, careful, wait, up, sit.

　　I am learning that being blind doesnt hold me back AT ALL. I can do pretty much anything the other dogs do. I love to explore and Im curious to find out whats out there even if I cant see it. I like going for walks and even go to the dog park but I stay on a long line close to foster mom, so I dont bump into trees or other dogs.

　　I have learned that furniture is awesome for laying on. I have a favourite chair but sometimes I like to hang on the couch with my foster siblings who are all Brittanys too! And, I have learned what its like to have my own dog bed and I sleep in it every night.

　　I have learned that tummy rubs are FAN-tastic and that cuddles and petting are pretty darn good too! You want an affectionate Brittany, Im your girl.

　　I have learned to take treats gently and can even sit for them.

　　I am learning that the car isnt too scary (just a wee bit still) and even though I cant see where we are going its usually somewhere fun.

　　Ive learned now that I have lost my sight, my ears work so much better, so I dont like a lot of loud noise. It does startle me. I need to live in a quiet, adult only home and hopefully with another calm and quiet Brittany like me so I wont be scared when Im alone. I do like other dogs but just calm and friendly ones after proper introductions and I do like to play. I live with 3 Brittanys now, and they are all super nice. I have never met a cat so I don't know if I like them or not.

　　I love to spend time outside in the backyard. Sniffing things and exploring....but because I can't see I need a physical fence to keep me safe. I am spayed, up to date on all my vaccinations, heart worm negative and other than being a bit zaftig (I like my dinner, what can I say?), I am in perfect health.
