  My story

This pups adoption fee has partially been sponsored by All Aboard! The new adoption fee is reflected on the profile.

Ombre is such an amazing dog and he's getting better and better at being a house hippo each day. He's still non-stop action and getting into things when he's not in his crate (doesn't stop to nap or lay down yet). He's an absolute snuggle-bug at night once he settles down and super sweet in the mornings when he's waking up - lots of hippo kisses!

We're working on behavioral downs... He's quick to drop into a charge (down), but he's having a harder time learning to stay put for any length of time. We're continuing to work at it though! He's very quick to pick up new tricks and is VERY food motivated - he's even allowed me to trim his nails with a grinder after watching Copper get his done and getting paid in treats! He knows/is gaining consistency in paw/other paw, sit, charge, stand, step up, step down, place, come, off, and fist bump. Walking outside on a leash is a BIG thing that we're still working on. He gets super excited and is still barking at other dogs from afar.

He did have some issues meeting my parents dog until we did a "walk" together and kept working closer until they calmed a bit, then everything was good!

Fetch, tug-tug, and chase are his favorite games. He also LOVES a good bully stick or a longer-lasting chew.

He'll still gets frustrated sometimes and will bark at me or bite at my feet to demand attention, but that's getting much less often. He is also getting better, but still "picks" at Copper for attention.

Where I see him having the most success right away is in a household of a single person or couple without another dog. Someone who understands dogs and will continue working with him and spoiling him (he's got time to make up for after all!).

He LOVES other dogs and likes to play and run and tug and chase! With that being said, he gets jealous and will butt in and bite on a dog that's getting attention when he isn't. He's also quite adamant when he wants attention and isn't getting it. Sometimes he'll bark, jump, and escalate to nipping feet/shoes/ankles for the attention. Funny, but not something that's well tolerated or fun for most people. He will bark (BIG bark) at dogs from the car or window, but he's totally cool and wants to play when actually together.

He's cat curious (a little rough, but NEVER aggressive). My cat loves dogs, but doesn't usually correct their behavior like a normal cat would, so I'm not sure how he would react to being told NO by a cat.

He's crate trained and will settle down pretty quickly once in it, but will get awfully stubborn about going into it from time to time, even with treats. He's working on house training, but hasn't learned to ask yet and still gets puppy distracted with play/excitement and then has an accident.

He is house and kennel trained.

Thousands of dogs and puppies are sitting in overcrowded, loud shelters. AAAR is giving our best efforts to rescue as many dogs/pups that are otherwise left to die or live their lives at a shelter alone.

We need the community's help!! Please consider fostering, volunteering, adopting, donating, and spreading awareness!

Most of these dogs and pups have never experienced love from humans before being brought to shelters. Consider falling in love with a rescue dog, and showing them what life is about!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ombre, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
