Olivia's story
**Oliva is currently being fostered in Houston, TX. This means, unfortunately meeting her prior to her adoption will not be possible. Her adoption donation is $500USD, which covers her flight home and vetting expenses. Because flights and care are so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable.**
Our beautiful Oliva was bought off a chain where she had lived her entire life as a breeding dog. One day, we approached her owner and asked if we could buy her freedom essentially. Well, we made the best decision ever because we got a jackpot dog! Now that she has been vetted, no more babies here, shes ready to be someones baby for the rest of her life.
Oliva is a roughly 3-year old, 40 pound American Staffie. She is a small, stout little girl who is fully grown. While her size and energy level make her ideal for an apartment or condo setting
many management companies have restrictions against bully breeds
so please check with your management company prior to applying. Oliva will be best suited for a family that will commit to proper exercise and socialization
she is good with other dogs, but really loves her people
so a great long walk/job every day would be her dream life!
Oliva currently lives with other dogs and does great with them, but we would advocate if she is added to a home with dogs, they be bigger dogs. She lives with Chihuauhas, but is sometimes a bit too interested in them for us to say she should live with small dogs. She loves to run and play with bigger dogs and would make a great addition to a pack. Oliva has met and done great with children ages 5 and 8 and we think her great disposition would make her a great addition to a family with children who have been taught how to be gentle and respectful of animals. Oliva has not been tested with kitties, but given her interest in small dogs, we dont think she should live with kitty friends.
Oliva has done an awesome job acclimating to life as an indoor pet, she loves just hanging out on the couch with her foster dad watching TV and having snacks. She is house and kennel trained and is working hard on her leash training. She is great in the car and would make a great adventuring buddy for the right family.
Olivias ideal family will understand that she will take time and patience as she acclimates into her new life. She may have accidents, chew on things she is not supposed to, and bark in her kennel. It can take dogs a few weeks to properly acclimate to their new lives, so she is seeking a family that can give her this time and work with her on becoming an even more awesome dog than she already is.
Oliva should be adopted by a family who plans to keep her indoors as part of a family - we do not adopt dogs into situations in which they will be left outside for extended periods of time unattended (for example, the entire work day).
Oliva is fully vetted (spayed, microchipped, vaccinated) and has no known health or allergy issues. Unfortunately, because Olivias former owners left her outside 24/7, she is heartworm positive. This poses no current health risk, but will require a small dose of bi-monthly medication for probably the next year as the worms die off. The rescue will provide the medication and instructions necessary to complete the treatment.
The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an application via our website which you can access via the following link: https://reggiesfriends.org/adoptables/
