New Heart Pine aka Alabama Heart Pine aka Longleaf Heart Pine or domestic heart pine at SYP Direct

　　When looking at heart pine prices there are several things to consider. Heart pine prices are insignificant unless you have some way to measure the amount of heart content within the board. This is accomplished using a visual sorting method as boards pass by on conveyer belt after having the tongue and groove and relief grooves cut. As you can imagine, this leaves some room for error but it also allows the mill to decide run by run what is and what is not heart pine. The two things we see away from our mill or be more specific, outside of Alabama, is that definition of heart pine changes slightly. Our heart pine is 50%-80% on every board, our grade of heart pine sold as 50% heart pine, which means 50% of the boards have heart content! This is not the same thing, not even close. 　　heart pine and we sell it for $2.20 per square foot in the 6 and 8.

　　New Heart Pine looks amazing with a simple oil finish as it deepens the heartwood and sap wood colors. The patina and colors will deepen over time and this floor, will age like a fine wine.

　　All floors are tongue and groove unfinished and an actual

　　thick. KILN dried to under 10% with relief grooves on backside for stability. Our mill partner is large enough to have the right equipment and small enough to care.

　　Back to the discussion of heart content and heart pine prices. 0-40% heart content will be the range in our most popular board, the #2 and better or knotty pine. this grade as the floors are visually culled when running new Heart Pine. Anything less than 50% heart content on face will either be cut shorter, or end up in our #2 grade.

　　Longleaf Southern Yellow Pine is recognized by the variations in color, grain and knots. These boards will have a little of everything and can create a great looking floor with nice stain and poly finish. This is our most popular and the most versatile grade we offer.
