Description The First: About the Artist and His Work Of ArtThe Virgin (Die Jungfrau) , also referred to as "The Maiden", is a painting by the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt painted in year 1913. is currently stored in the National Gallery in Prague, Czech Republic. In this surreal composition, the entanglement of women has lost any realism and thus, all is absorbed in the decorative scheme. The association of beauty with such unnatural poses, indicates an allusion to life's ephemeral nature, a reflection of modern society. The abundance of the flowers in the painting symbolizes the evolution into womanhood. The painting depicts six women that are interlacing. Each woman represents a particular life stage. The painting touches on various topics of human life, such as love, sexuality and regeneration that are depicted in cyclical shapes.
