My story
03/15/22 OG was surrendered to the shelter after being accused of urinating inappropriately in the house. According to the previous owners, OG is litterbox trained, but a housemate had caught OG urinating outside of the box. OG is a sweet kitty but is shy at first, so give him a minute to approach you and he will give you all the head bops, rubs and love you desire. OG's previous owner stated he does not do well with small children, does not like dogs and can be shy around cats, so we are requiring that he find a home without dogs, kids under 12 years, and if you have other kitties, please make sure to introduce them slowly and give them plenty of time to acclimatize to each other. OG has been thoroughly worked up to see if there was any medical cause to his issues, and his bloodwork and urinalysis came back clean, plus he has gotten a dental cleaning, courtesy of the shelter fund! The vets that have seen OG have recommended he go to a low-stress home and be fed a prescription 'stress' diet, either Hills c/d stress or Royal Canin Feline Calm.
These foods can only be obtained with a prescription from your veterinarian, and tend to be a bit more spendy than your usual grocery store cat food, so please make sure you are able to appropriately provide for OG before adopting. OG is a social eater, so he may prefer a companion to hang out with during meal times! OG will need time (think weeks, not days) to get used to his new environment. During this adjustment period in his new home, it is recommended to keep him in a room with the door shut, making sure to keep all of his resources close by, litterbox, food and fresh water. Once he feels comfortable in this room then itâÂÂs time to gradually let him explore the rest of the house. Remember to always provide multiple litterboxes throughout the home- especially if it is a large home- to avoid OG having to scramble across the house for a toilet!
The rule of thumb for cat boxes is to always have one more box than the number of cats in the home. OG was an indoor kitty in his previous home, so please continue to maintain him as such for his safety. OG is looking for a quiet and patient family, one that understands him and takes the time to work with him. If OG sounds like the cat for you, please give the shelter a call to make an appointment to meet him.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt OG, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
