My story
The Fall beauty!Hewo hooman! My name is October. I am a 2-year-old, neutered male, Lab Mix weighing around 68 lbs. I am here because The Animal Pad rescued me from Ensenada. I was skinny and had a lot of mange when I was rescued but now, I have a beautiful healthy black coat and healthy weight! I am crate, house, and bathroom trained! I am working on leash reactivity! I get overwhelmed on busy streets and very overwhelmed when we encounter other doggos. I have been walking in the back yard as practice to build up to walkies around the neighborhood. Unfortunately, I have neighbors with loud doggos that bark at me which overwhelms me even more. I need someone who can work with me and train me with my reactivity. Somewhere where it’s not a busy neighborhood would help. Here’s a little bit about me! I am super sweet, goofy, and playful! I love to play and jump around, but I also love to sleep and spread myself out on the floor. Although… when it’s play time, I’m all in. I am very independent, I stay physically near/around you, but I’ll play and explore on my own. I will come to check in with you occasionally or when you call me. My favorites are tennis balls and squeaky toys, as well as lick mats with yogurt or peanut butter
I am very smart, I learn quickly and respond well to commands like come and sit. I can be stubborn, but I respond well to treats and my e-collar. I’m very unique in the way that I have a personality of a young pupper but also an old grumpy stubborn doggo. I am working on dog reactivity, I will jump/lunge and bark when my neighbor’s dogs bark. I have not been introduced to a polite doggo yet. I have not had any interactions with cats or little hoomans yet. I do get protective when near other doggos that are outside from my household furry siblings and my toys. I can get nippy when scared/overwhelmed, having my tennis ball around helps when this happens. My favorite things to do are fetch, sleep, and sunbathe. Since I am a very special guy, looking for a very special home, I would love to do a trail period first, before adoption. I definitely need continued structured exposure to dogs in order not slip back into reactive habits, which come from overstimulation, not aggression. I should live in a home with another stable steady dog or two but it needs to be a structured environment and a proper introduction. I could be the only dog in the home if they're willing to put in work to keep me socialized. I need someone willing to set firm boundaries and stay active and social. I am an AWESOME dog when my training is maintained. I am so smart, eager to please, playful, and actually really enjoy other dogs. A quiet neighborhood would be ideal and a secure yard to run around and play in as I continue to work on my training. My adoption fee is $400 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/##966229##
If you have any questions or would like to adopt October, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
