2/4/16 UPDATE: Noodles to the rescue! She has befriended and is falling in love with the widower Dallas whose mate died after a long decline with congestive heart failure. Noodles & Dallas are the perfect match. They are both big, strong, spooky birds who prefer aviary life & birds to hanging out with people (at least for now). They too might become bicultural & learn to love people if given the time & love & patience needed to do so.
UPDATE: Noodles is an enigmatic bird. We're not sure of his/her gender and so far, Noodles is staying solo. We thought that s/he was female but she didn't really ever bond with her mate and so now she is back available for foster care. Whatever Noodles' gender turns out to be, this is a beautiful, gentle and very dignified bird. Noodles has done a couple of outreach events and while she was usually tense, she was much more comfortable with one particular volunteer and so we know that when she wants to connect, she does.
Noodles (on the right, shown here with her mate Opal) is a extra lucky bird. She's a King Pigeon bred for meat but who was "released" instead of butchered. Then, she was lucky to survive that (domestic pigeons like her are easy meals for all kinds of predators). She chose a nice family's yard to hide in and she stayed there until they realized she needed help. They found us and since we were full, fostered her for a week until we could squeeze her into foster care where she met and fell in love with a very special widower named Opal. Now's she adopted. She's home! Congratulations Abby Noodles! You are a very lucky and loved pigeon! Please apply to adopt /birds/apply-to-foster-or-adopt/
