New Custom Replacement Guitar Bridge for 1950’s 1960’s Kay Truetone, Silvertone, Old Kraftsman. This is a new IMPROVED original style bridge for 50’s and 60’s Kay built solid body electric guitars. We who admit to loving Kay guitars should be willing to also admit sometimes their build quality was not much better than sloppy. It’s what’s kept them cheap, well semi-cheap, and for those of us who love to tinker, we know of their possibilities if they’re modified very slightly. And to that end, after owning many vintage solid body Kay electrics, I’ve decided to start making available the parts I have had to make, to improve them and get them to their best, and so here is the first “Improved” Kay Bridge. The originals had many flaws. Their mounting holes were drilled all the way through which limits the amount of area where strings may pass, i.e. sometimes your string will break the tiny piece of wood to either side of the hole. The holes are NOT drilled through on this new improved bridge to allow for full string placement ability and better rigidity of the bridge surface. (Photos 6 & 7 show the original bridge alongside the new improved version.)Also, the improved bridge is about a quarter of an inch wider on each side to enable you to correct for poorly aligned necks and to make sure that there’s enough meat under the string, and that the string is not placed too close to the edge where it can easily break the edge of the original bridge. The string notches are not yet made to allow you to match it exactly to your guitar.Let’s get that old Kay playing correctly!
