Molly is a 5 year 3 month old spayed female German Shepherd. We have had her since she was 6 weeks old. Her shots are up to date and she gets a monthly sentinel pill for heartworm (etc.) prevention. Per our conversation Molly is a sweet and loving dog who likes to play (fetch and tug of war). However she is fiercely over protective of our family. We cannot take her out in public and walking her is extremely difficult. She started displaying this behavior at a very young age (3 months) when we lived in Arkansas. We took her to obedience training in Arkansas at Durham Haus Working Dogs of Arkansas in west Little Rock. Initially she was much better but unfortunately it didn't last. We moved here 4 1/2 years ago. I used to take her to the dog park to play fetch and she was okay with other dogs. However when she was around 2 years old she spent a week on my bosses farm with other dogs and was never the same around dogs after that. Apparently 2 Great Pyrenees got in a fight with her and now she is nervous and defensive around any dog. It's to the point where both her quality of life and ours is severely impacted. It really has become unmanageable. We can't even leave her in our fenced back yard alone for a moment. If someone is walking a dog on the sidewalk behind our yard Molly will get her front legs on top of the small back fence and acts like she's trying to jump over and attack them. If our neighbor on one side lets his older dog out Molly does the same thing or if the other neighbor lets her two young girls out to play Molly does the same thing. We feel like we can't have anyone over to socialize because she has to be put in her kennel cage because she acts so protective and scares people. We are afraid that she will bite someone and we will get sued. Even though she hasn't bitten anyone so far. We are at our wits end and just want her and us to have a good quality of life. I can't really express the level of frustration this has caused my wife and I. I did talk to my wife and we are willing to try training again if that's possible. Otherwise we feel she would be a wonderful dog with the right kind of owners. She seems to do well when kenneled with other dogs and people. But with us she goes into 110 percent protection mode!
