Have 2 MiniDV portable video recorders. I see this package going to a hopeful house movie maker / sport video maker (thats exactly what I did but too hectic with task to invest the time I utilized to).
The Canon Optura 30 was leading of the line and still competes well on a video standpoint with more recent video cameras over $500:.

Carl Zeiss len; 12x optical zoom / 240x digital zoom.
Network button to talk with you desktop/laptop.
Multiple quality effects integrateded for video.
SD card for saving video/still images.
Several vid out; Svid, DV, USB.
External mic in.
Palm size-not huge or too little.
Constructed in lighting that works well.
Accessory mount.
Compact lug case.
All the normal things.
The Sharp is a decent camera I'm throwing in with the bundle that works. Would give a somewhat more classic aim to movie and could be made use of all at once with photoshoots to give different angles to modify into final movie later. It also has still electronic camera function.
