**Mella is part of a bonded pair and will only be adopted out with Joey, the Belgian Malinois.**
Mella is 6 years old. She will be 7 in January. Mella and Joey are in need of a new home because their owner died. These two dogs have been together since they were young pups.
What a nice dog Mella is! She is calm and friendly to strangers. Housetrained, crate trained, rides well in the car. Mella is a moderate energy dog.
She loves attention, being outside and going for walks. Mella does pull on the leash so will need work in this area.
She is a long coat German shepherd so will need regular grooming, which she tolerates, but does not love!
She has trouble standing for long periods of time so grooming sessions are best kept short.
In Mella's previous life she was overfed and was quite overweight when her owner died.
We are happy to report that Mella is now down to her goal weight of 70 pounds!. She also has had TPLO surgery on both back legs. All of her medical records are available to her adopter. Keeping Mella's weight in check will be important to her future health.
You will need to have a fenced yard to adopt Joey and Mella.
We feel that, even though they get along with other dogs, they would be happiest in a home where they dont have to share their owner.
They are attention hogs!
They are said to be good with older children.
They have never been exposed to cats, so we have no idea how they would react.
We suspect Joey would want to chase and catch them.
Mella and Joey's adoption fee is $300 for both dogs. This includes their extra large wire crates. They are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
