Meet Nanci
Meet Nanci
Oct 22, 2024
Description

Meet Nanci. Nanci is on of our special needs pets. This little bichon/poodle mix we estimate to be about 2 years old. She is the HAPPIEST little girl around, which is pretty amazing if you know her medical history and what she had to overcome to get where she is today. Nanci was turned in to the shelter with an obvious problem with what appeared to be her hip. An "exam" was done by an outside vet who told the staff it didn't bother her so to just leave her alone. She spent a month at the shelter--and being overcrowded the majority of time was in a small kennel. That actually turned out to be a VERY good thing. Although Nanci could run, wag her tail, and didn't seem to be in any pain, we took her to our vet to see if anything could be done surgically or with physical therapy to help our little gal. When our vet looked at the x-rays her jaw hit the floor. We knew something was off, but had no idea the severity of her previous injuries. Nanci's pelvis is shattered, it's in a million pieces, the leg she limps on is the same--it's broken in so many places there is no way to put it back together. Her "good" leg is fractured as well--her tibia is sliced right down the middle. Looking at these xrays you would NEVER think that she would be mobile. Everything has healed improperly. There isn't a thing we can do about trying to repair the damage--as it happened far too long ago. Best guess is she was hit by a car. How long did she spend in what was obviously severe pain? Even after all that...she is the happiest little girl with the sweetest demeanor who loves EVERYONE she meets. She runs around like nothing ever happened to her. Nanci is all ready to find her forever home now! She has learned to master the doggie stairs, but can't--and shouldn't--jump up or down onto anything. A one story home is best. If there is a pool it MUST be fenced. Nanci cannot swim well without her life vest on. If she fell in, she would not be able to make it to the side, and cannot pull herself up out of the pool, even with the stairs. Swimming is great therapy for her though, but it MUST be supervised. Nanci is SO sweet, we believe she'd make an excellent therapy dog, especially since she loves children. Nanci walks with a very pronounced limp--while out running errands she met a young boy who uses braces to walk--and boy did he get a kick out of her, smiling and giggling as she ran happily around the store. He suggested we get her some leg braces too. Oh there must be a forever home out there where she can showcase her sunny disposition to humans just like her. It's out there...so let's help her find it! Okay, fingers crossed....Nanci your home is waiting for you! Ready....set....SHARE!
