MATEO's story
COURTESY POST - Please see direct contact information below!
Im a 100 pound one-year-old lab-shepherd-bully mix. I am neutered, current on shots, potty trained and know sit, lay, drop and gentle. I love humans, kitties, playing ball and anything to do with water. My favorite toys are horse jolly balls and Kong frisbees. My rescue family thinks Id be an A-list recruit for law enforcement or an agility rock star!
My background:
Sometime in June, witnesses described seeing me getting dumped by some ugly humans in the desert. These ugly humans also tried to run me over with their truck. I was alone, it was hot, and I had no water. Thankfully a good Samaritan found me and took me to the vet where I was treated for neck wounds.
I ended up at MCACC and when my story spread they called me Miracle. It didnt take long for a family in Northern Arizona to hear my plea
in fact, I communicated to them I wanted to be called Mateo, which they didnt know at the time means gifts from God. They had a feeling someday I would save lives and decided they would do whatever possible to help me. Since they werent able to set up a rescue sponsored foster situation quickly enough, they adopted me directly to save my life and I was transported to their home in Prescott Valley.

Today:
My rescue family has spent a lot of time teaching me about living in a regular household, learning manners and having boundaries. I like to counter surf and shred paper products but I am getting much better!
We play ball/fetch two or three times a day. Ive gone on long (4 mile) walks but can pull hard and still dont like having a leash around my neck; my rescue family believes I was chained up for most of my young life. I dont mind my collar though; its blue and makes me look like Scooby Doo!
I will pace and cry when my humans drive anywhere; I know the sounds of an automobile and have a fear of being abandoned again. Im otherwise usually pretty quiet unless I need to alert you that something is going on outside. Being in my 4 x 6 indoor kennel helps calm me down.
My forever home will have very physically active, patient humans who will engage, play, exercise and work with me daily. I still like to use my mouth to get your attention and can play rough so a home without seniors or young children I could accidentally hurt or knock over is best. I will respond well to calm assertive energy, consistency and praise as I continue to learn boundaries and manners. I must have plenty of room to run and play in a safe fenced/walled yard with either no other dogs or only a submissive female. Im ready to play ball, are you??
Sloppy kisses xx
