  Lucy's story

This cutie pie is Lucy. She will instantly melt your heart! Just look at those ears! She is a good girl who has plenty of energy to keep up on adventures, but small enough to not need acres of land. She would love to go camping and hiking then come home and nap at your feet!

How long has it been with the foster home?

Lucy has been with us for 2 weeks

What other pets has this animal been exposed to, and how did they react?

12 year old pekingese bitch. Lucy was food and leash aggressive. (**The foster family has a senior, female, unaltered dog. Most dogs will react to not only being in a new home with a new dog, but will be more reactive to an older unaltered dog. Especially a female. Found Nation members have walked her on leash and introduced her to other dogs and she did not react with us**)

How does this pet react to men, women and strangers?

She is very friendly to all humans with nervous excitement.

What type of food has the pet been eating, how much and on what schedule?

We picked up Purina Pro Plan Chicken formula. She was slow to eat at first and would only have one small morsel at time. Now she eats much faster like you would expect a puppy to normally.

Are there any behavioral issues that have been noted?

Some food and leash aggression and she nips when excited in an attempt to be playful. Because she is very intelligent and without knowing much about her past she is extremely aware of her surroundings all the time. She seems to have a lot of nervous energy and spooks easily. But she responds very well to a calm, relaxed, quiet and loving environment. (*The foster family has a senior, female, unaltered dog. Most dogs will react to not only being in a new home with a new dog, but will be more reactive to an older unaltered dog. Especially a female. Found Nation members have walked her on leash and introduced her to other dogs and she did not react with us. Lucy is a heeler mix puppy and they instinctively tend to nip when playing. She is still learning that mouthing is not okay. Adopter will need to continue training. She was only rescued two weeks ago. Most dogs take almost a month to settle in and become less "spooked"***)

What type of collar or harness is the pet accustomed to wearing?

Recently we have switched her from a leash to a harness. (**Found Nation is in desperate need of harness donations. We prefer puppies and dogs to be on harness. We recommend any adopter to purchase a harness.**)

  Is the pet housetrained?

We believe so. (**Anytime you bring a puppy into a new home you need to start with the basics. Frequent potty breaks, constant supervision, potty breaks after eating and drinking, not allowing free roam, and creating boundaries as well as schedules.**)

In dogs, what type of potty break schedule have they been on, or is the dog trained to go to the bathroom on papers or a litter box?

We take Lucy out at least 3-4 times a day. Morning, Lunch, after work, then again before bedtime.

In dogs, are they accustomed to staying in a crate when left alone? How to they react to confinement?

Lucy now does well in her crate. She doesn't like her crate but she has responded well with the consistency of her potty and food breaks through out the day that she no longer whines when we put her in.

Does the pet cope well with new places? Does it travel well in a car?

She does great in the car. She gets a bit nervous in new places. She responds well to calm people. (** Please note that Lucy is a heeler mix. Heelers need lots of exercise and can demonstrate nervous behavior is kept indoor too often. A busy/tired dog is a well manured and happy dog.**)

Does the pet have any favorite toys or games?

She loves rope toys and big rawhide bones, and strong chew toys. She will play with those for hours. She is just learning how to play fetch. She's very intelligent.

Can you adopt her today? YES ** If you apply for her today and are approved, you will need to take her home today. We have so many adopters coming. We would rather her go into a forever home than wait around in foster care** Please note that Lucy has come down with kennel cough from previously being in a shelter. She is a recent rescue and kennel cough is like the common cold, you have it before symptoms show that you have it. She is being treated for. She can go to her forever home today. However, if you have other animals you MUST keep them separate for at least one week. Even if vaccinated with bordetella you animal may get sick.

How much is her adoption fee? Lucy's is only $250.00. This includes DA2PP, Bordetella, Rabies vaccination, dewormer, flea/tick treatment, and spay.

**Please note** If you have other animals in your home, we require proof that all animals are up to date on vaccinations. If they're not up to date, you will not be approved. To adopt an animal from Found Nation Animal Rescue, be sure to apply online
