My story
Lexie Lou is a young female husky. She was found in a creek bed with her 9 puppies, half starved and very scared. She has since raised her pups and gained a bit of weight. She is friendly once she knows you. She is afraid at first meetings, will bark and run away. If you spend a little bit of time she comes around for pets and snuggles. She is still very much a puppy and loves blankets and pillows. She is potty trained in that she will go outside if you take her but does still have accidents. She does need a bit more work on the leash and riding in the car. She will walk with you but will not jump in on her own. I usually have to pick her up or she will keep backing away. She does know to be quiet in a crate if there is a blanket over her but will talk to you if she is locked in and can see you. So far, she is respectful of fences and does not dig in the yard. My fences are a little over 4 feet but and she could clear them if she wanted to. If she feels safe, loved, and well fed she will not go anywhere. She does bark at strangers, but stops with correction. She needs someone who can make the time to continue to work on her training and confidence. She would NOT be a good fit for someone with cats or small livestock. She is a husky and as such has a high prey drive. As she was forced to fend for herself, she was never taught that those things are off limits. With the right trainer you could work with her. In my experience, it is not fair to put her in that place unless you plan on paying thousands of dollars to work with a trainer who specializes in those behavior modifications.

Thank you so much for looking into wags and whiskers for your next family member.
All of our pets are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm tested if over 6 months old and will be spayed or neutered before being allowed to go home.
Unfortunately, we don't always know the background of each dog. Some were dumped, abandoned in an empty house, left tied to a tree, picked up by animal control as strays, or simply unwanted by their owners. Please take into consideration that owning a pet is a 10+ year commitment and discuss with all members of your family before submitting an application to adopt.
If you have already filled out an online adoption application with our organization in the last 6 months you do not need to fill out another application. Please call or email us to schedule an appointment.
If you are interested in meeting this pet please apply to adopt at
