Up for auction is an incredible rendition of William Hollman Hunt’s (1)
religious masterpiece “The Light Of The World”. The original was painted in 1854. The painting toured the world in the 19th Century and is considered one of the most significant allegorical works of the pre-Raphaelite movement. There is a tremendous amount of symbolism, and was inspired by the Bible verse from Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock”. The lantern represents the light of conscience. The halo represents the light of salvation, and the door represents the soul.The unsigned rendition is extremely well done and only varies from the original with the inclusion of a bat.The painting measures 41” x 21” and is in excellent condition with a few small scratches that can be easily repaired. The incredible 48” x 27” x 1-1/2” frame is in amazing condition. There is a presentation plaque at the bottom that reads “In loving memory Edwin A. Burks Intermediate Department”The painting is in ready to hang condition. It is large and heavy and will require extra shipping cost.
