　　JOEY: black neutered 12 year-old male Lab mix 65 lbs

　　Joey was adopted from GGLRR three years ago by a wonderful San Francisco couple who gave him a loving home. They loved taking him for walks around the City and in the hills of their neighborhood. His gentle presence was a perfect fit for their mature lifestyle. Recently, the husband, who has Parkinson's disease, took a fall and suffered a broken collar bone. Joey's mom still works, so her husband and Joey would be at home alone, which was an impossible situation, give her husband's compromised mobility. Very sadly and with great reluctance, his family decided that Joey would need to be returned to Lab Rescue for re-homing. Joey is a happy soul, friendly to all, who enjoys the companionship of his people. His guardians describe a dog that has no bad habits, is fully house-trained, loves cats and enjoys a couple of brief walks per day. Joey sleeps through the night on his bed. As an older gentleman, he has arthritis, but with NSAID medication along with a glucosamine-chondroitin supplement, remains quite cheerful and active for his age. Joey has had excellent care for the past three years, including regular vet visits, is microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations. Joey would be a good companion for a retired couple or single, or even a "starter" dog for a growing family as long as the children are gentle and respectful of his elder status. And, as we said, Joey loves people...and cats!

　　Here is what Joey's Foster has to say: Joey is a calm, loving boy. He loves everyone and gets along with both our dogs. He loves being close to his people and would be ideal for a person or family that is around most of the day, although he seems to have no problem being alone for hours at a time. He has arthritis in his hips and takes medication for it. However, we have taken him for walks lasting nearly an hour up and down hills. He?s always happy and ready to go on outings. Other than being a bit slow and needing an occasional rest stop, he?s done very well. Now and then, he?ll even get wild and crazy, jump around and play with a ball!
