Labrador Retriever - Annabell - Large - Adult - Female - Dog
ANNABELL: 3yr old spayed female lab/mix 62 lbs
Annabell?s family moved her from Tennessee about 4 months ago. They moved into a very small house with little space for a dog. The owner has lost her job and is having trouble caring for Annabell. So with great regret she must find a new home for her. The owner has had Annabell and her brother since they were 4 weeks old she had found them both in a ditch in Tennessee. She took them into her home and took care of them and has been their family ever since.
Annabell is a very sweet girl, she loves to be petted and belly rubs are her favorite. She might bark a little when she first meets you, but this is getting to be a lot less. She does not jump up to greet you, she will come up and set in front of you and wait for a treat, which she dearly loves and takes very nicely. Annabell likes to be with you and be close to you. She does get excited to see children, so older children would be best for her. She rides nicely in the car. When I picked her up she sat nicely in the back with no problems. Annabell is house trained and is learning to be in a crate. We are not sure how she will be with cats, so a cat free home would be best for her. Annabell does have an allergy to wheat so a grain free diet for this girl.
We have had Annabell working with a trainer, he has said that she is walking very well on leash and does not have any issues passing dogs on the streets. She is doing well with her commands offering sits and downs quickly and happily. He also said that Annabell is very noise aware and reacts to loud traffic and sounds in the environment. She is now with a foster in downtown San Francisco and she is handling noises like a pro.
We are looking for a family that can be with Annabell a good part of the day. She will need a new family that continues her training, be calm and supportive, but not baby her. She needs structure in her life with exposure to the world.
Annabell is up to date on her shots, micro chipped and taking heart worm medication. She is located in San Francisco.
This is what Annabell?s foster family has to say:
Wherever Annabell goes, love and kisses follow. She is from a rural area but is quickly adjusting to the city. We are very impressed by how trainable she is due to her love of food.
The good: Very people friendly and we expect the same to dogs. Although described as noise and light sensitive, we would describe her current state as normal during the day and noise/light aware at night. Honestly, though, don't we all get a little scared at night? In less than a week, she has learned down, stay, and leave it (applies to debris on the ground and people/joggers/bikers/other dogs) and Stop (our alternative to curb). We have stopped her habit of bolting through doorways and she is invited through each threshold. We have started the basics of leash walking with both a gentle leader and on a collar. She is turning into quite a retriever as well and will fetch a medley of squeak toys, balls and kongs. Most of the time, she is happy to be in the same room as you, will lean against you and give you kisses.
The areas for improvement: Due to kennel cough, we have not been able to expose her to a lot of the city so there is still a lot to find out. We have not tested her with children but she is very sensitive to emotion and may become too skittish around very young children. At night, things that she was okay with in the day can be troublesome (even as simple as the click of my heels). There is a little separation anxiety and we will monitor and continue to train in this area.
She is easy to love and discipline and regimen is what she needs now. Exposure to anything is done in small steps, positive praise and lots and lots of repetition. She is a sweetheart and should blossom into a great companion pet.
