  KS/Ginger's story

Miss Ginger is an 8-year-old liver/white 44-pound spayed female that is completely blind. She was a stray picked up on a Kansas farm field. UTD on vaccines, HW neg and on HW prevention.

Ginger has proven herself to be completely adaptable to many situations and living environments. When she was found originally she had been in two shelters, and then temporarily with a foster for the weekend until she met her current foster. She easily learned her way around both the home and the yard, by learning the perimeter, and then the objects in the middle. Her foster family had to move about six weeks after having her, so she readily acclimated to a new home, this one with interior and exterior stairs. Within 14 days, she learned to climb up the carpeted stairs and find her bed. She climbs up the deck stairs to the back door to come inside. Her foster thinks she will adapt to her new surroundings quickly with a little patience and guidance. She is still learning stairs, mostly the going down part. Mostly, her permanent family will need patience with the fact that she is highly independent, and knows everything without you showing her! Shes got it mom!!!

Shes a zealous eater and enjoys being fed treats when they are placed right onto her little nose. Dont leave the food bag on the counter, or she may help herself! The vet says she has no sight whatsoever, and has been this way for a long time, though the cause is unknown. She is a super happy tail wagging dog! She gets along very well with other dogs, joining two others at her foster home, where there are also young children. She lets the kids play with her and move her around, and loves sleeping with kids on the bed or wherever. She does need help getting off the bed on hardwood floors, though a low bed, especially with soft carpet, will be no problem once she learns it, by you tapping the floor, so she knows how far it is. She can also easily find the sofa to sleep on when youre not home, but if you have alternatives, shes all ears. Shes also happy in a little dog bed. She is housetrained in that she will do her business on demand when you take her out virtually every time. If she is taken out regularly she will not have any accidents in the house. She likes to be on your lap, and will climb up into it as you try to read the paper! Shes not too thrilled with crates, though the right type, with a soft bed, while youre not home, may work find with a little effort. She seems to have little ability to vocalize so shes a quiet spunky girl. No fence jumping concern for her! A Brittany that wont run off on you!

Ginger is a healthy senior, having had two benign mammary tumors removed at the time of spay. They were estrogen fed so her spay helps her overall health. She was treated for hookworms and never exhibited any health concerns while living with her foster. Overall, Ginger is not at all daunted by her blindness, and she is seeking a loving permanent home where her new owners will show her around, and she can safely enjoy her new space, and her new family. She likes to spread her wings and she likes returning to her nest.

From Ginger: I would like a loving family that will spoil and love me unconditionally. It would be extra special too if you would make sure I had my cookies and lap cuddles. I promise I will give you love back unconditionally too. They may think I am blind, but I have extra special powers that let me get around just find. Thank you for giving me the chance to be your baby girl, I promise you wont be disappointed. My Foster Mom would love to talk with you.
