My story
Poor Kinsey was surrendered to the shelter when she was 9 months old by a back yard breeder. Their mom had given birth to the next litter and Kinsey and her 2 brothers had not been sold so they were of no use to him. They had been living outside in a 10x10 kennel and never been touched by a human in a positive way. Their only interactions with people were when he hit them or dumped a bag of food in their pen.
Kinsey, Bode, and Tyler were at the shelter for 14 months but did not make any progress in learning to trust people because they just don't have the resources. Tyler and Bode are moving to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah because they will never be able to live in a home. Kinsey was the least fearful so we're hoping that she can eventually learn that people aren't bad.
She is currently in a foster with a secure fenced in yard and she wears a no slip harness and is attached to a leash at all times to make handling her less stressful. She has to be leash walked in the yard because she tries so hide under the shed if given the opportunity. She does not have a mean bone in her body, she still melts at the threshold of the door and has to be carried inside. She loves the other dogs at the house and she is making progress. We are prepared to keep this little girl in our care as long as needed. She will only be considered to a very experienced home that is prepared to put in the time and effort she needs to feel safe.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kinsey, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
