KINGSTON's story
Kingston has been through the shelter several times, and really hopes his new family will be his forever home! Most recently, Kingston, formerly Toby, was surrendered to the shelter due to the previous owner being unable to care for him anymore due to personal health problems. According to the previous owner Kingston is housebroken, kennel trained, nervous when meeting strangers and dislikes other dogs due to previous bad experiences. The previous owner also says that Kingston knows basic commands, is loyal and affectionate with his person, but will sometimes get into the trash when left unattended.
Upon Kingston''s most recent intake it was found that he had bitten a person trying to break up a fight between him and another dog- the person trying to grab Kingston''s collar slipped and fell, accidentally putting his hand in Kingston''s mouth. Because this was an unintentional bite, not aggressively directed towards a person, we have decided to proceed with making Kingston available for adoption.
While at the shelter, we have temperament tested Kingston and found that he generally does well with most types of handling, but does not always care for other dogs (although he most recently lived with another female dog, with no known issues). Therefore, we would prefer that Kingston go to a home without other dogs, but if there is another dog in the prospective home, we will require mutual visits to evaluate whether it may be a safe fit. Kingston is a big strong boy and can be possessive of chewy toys, so we are requiring that he go to a home without children under the age of 12 years. Kingston has a high prey drive and may chase small animals such as cats and pocket pets, so he will need to go to a home without cats.
Kingston is a loving boy who needs an owner who is aware of his limits, and understands how to appropriately introduce dogs to each other. He is a young, active boy who requires excercise and mental stimulation. He may benefit from working with a trainer on his dog reactivity. With effort and knowledge, Kingston can be a great addition to his new household.
