KING's story
King was dropped off at the shelter after being left with a caretaker for an extended period of time and his owner did not return for him. The caretaker indicated that King was nippy with members of their family, including a small child, would fight with other dogs, and would chew household items and kids toys. Unfortunately, the caretaker did not leave any contact information so that we might inquire more about the circumstances behind King''s behavior. King was temperament tested while at the shelter; he was pushy and dominant with other dogs, so mutual visits with any other dogs in a prospective home are a MUST, and he became overly excited in the presence of our child manikin, so he should go to a home with only older children, if any. King is a high energy dog who easily becomes overstimulated, so he may have a high prey drive and should most likely go to a home without cats. If his new home has cats, extreme caution should be exercised when attempting to introduce them. King did do very well in the handling portion of his temperament test and enjoys the company of his human family. He would benefit from an active home that can give him the exercise and mental stimulation he needs, as well as plenty of positive reinforcement and socialization to help him become more comfortable around new dogs, people and situations. King may also enjoy attending a basic obedience class, where he can brush up on his manners and see the world!
