My story
Karra is a lovely, young female pit bull terrier mix. She originally was a transfer
from a shelter in North Carolina. Whether her timidity was due to being naturally shy or to not being exposed to lots of experiences while young, Karra was extremely shy when she came to us. Gradually, with kindness, patience and gentle handling by staff and volunteers, she has become more relaxed and social. She loves spending time with people and playing in the yard. In new situations, however, she can still become fearful, so she needs a gentle owner with the patience to teach her about the world and to help build her self-confidence. She still doesn’t like fast, unexpected movements and quick grabbing makes her uncomfortable, so we recommend that she not live with young children. Young kids can act unpredictably and often lack the maturity to recognize a dog’s signals that he is feeling fearful or uncomfortable.Karra has been up at the front desk for a few hours at a time and was quiet, well-behaved, housebroken and okay around our office cat. She did live with another dog for about 7 months and did well with him. However, here at the shelter, when another dog played too roughly with her, she reacted negatively out of fear. Karra has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and negative for heartworm. Karra is a
special girl who just needs an understanding person and a loving home to help her blossom and thrive.
