Joan's story
Joan came into our facility because her previous owners had to downsize their home and they were unable to keep Joan and the other cat that came in with her, Alice (860636). Joan is a very shy and quiet cat. During her exam she enjoyed getting pet at her own pace and was very affection when she became comfortable. When entering a kennel she will be nervous and have a low growl, but will welcome petting if you move slowly with her. She has only been around one other cat (Alice), older children (11-16), and no dogs. Due to her very shy behavior, children over 10 that will allow her space and watch her body language is recommened. Her previous owner stated "Joan is the "Alphacat"" with other cats, a slow introduction with other cats is advised.
When bringing Joan home, we suggest starting her out in a single room (office, spare room, bathroom) for her to have a safe space. This will allow her to adjust to her new family members at her own pace without overwhelming her. Please give her 3-6 months for her to full adjust to her new home.
