My story
Thank you so much for looking into Wags and Whiskers' The Cat House for the newest addition to your family.
Poor Jeff was witnessed being tossed from a moving vehicle by his tail, into a good samaritan's front yard. Upon seeing this, the samaritan scooped up the kitten, and started making calls, begging for help. Call after call, she was told the same thing, "sorry, we are full" or "sorry, try animal control." Finally, when she was beginning to lose hope, she was referred to Wags and Whiskers by the local vet's office that she had called; when she called Wags and Whiskers Pet Rescue, she nearly broke down into tears when she heard "Yes, we can help. Bring the kitten to Chico Pet Vet and we will start treatment asap!"
Our good samaritan did not hesitate, and headed straight to the neighboring town, where Wags and Whiskers and Chico Pet Vet are located. Upon arrival at the vet clinic, little Jeff was given a physical exam, where it was noted that liquid feces was dripping from his anus, and our veterinarian determined that he likely is suffering from a spinal injury due to being thrown by his tail, and having his tail, which is an extension of the spine, hold the entire weight of his body. Jeff was then sedated and taken in for x-rays to get an idea of the full extent of his injuries.
After looking at his x-rays, our vet determined that poor Jeff had multiple broken and fractured bones, in his tiny little body, including his pelvis, both hind legs, his hips, and multiple vertebrae in his back and tail. Jeff is stuck on crate rest and is receiving medication to control his pain levels and inflammation, and he is receiving cold laser therapy treatments to attempt to get Jeff on the healing track before resorting to surgery.
At Wags and Whiskers' The Cat House, we do not discriminate against any animal based on their age, current health, or pre-existing medical condition(s). We are a dedicated team of volunteers, with a strong passion for animals and a very special bond with the injured, abused and abandoned. Due to the fact that we work so closely with qualified veterinarians, we are able, and willing, to take on the most complex medical cases to help give them the chance, that ever animal deserves, at a full, happy and healthy life. Our primary goal is giving hope to the hopeless; your adoption helps make a difference.
All of our cats are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, FIV/FeLV tested, and will be spayed or neutered before being allowed to go home.
Unfortunately, we don't always know the background of each cat. Some were dumped, abandoned in an empty house, left in a box on the side of a road, picked up by animal control as strays, or simply unwanted by their owners.
