Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
NGPR does not adopt dogs to homes with children under 6 years old.
Previous dog experience is required, preferably large breed.
Female Great Pyrenees rarely cohabitate with other females successfully.
Our goal is for each adoption to be a permanent placement, therefore homes that already have a female dog are not eligible to adopt a female Pyr.
Jake is one of those amazing dogs that do not come along every day in rescue. He is simply the very best boy! He adores people, loves to snuggle, is housetrained, great indoors, loves cats, kids and other dogs both big and small and everybody else he meets. He is a gem and a big goofball. Jake came into rescue so broken and down on his luck. Poor guy was hit by a car and his owner took him to the vet weeks later to be euthanized only because he could no longer stand up. Lucky for Jake, the vet contacted a local humane rescue who called NGPR to see if we could help him. Jake had major surgery on both of his legs and we are so happy to report that he is doing fantastic now! He just had another vet visit and both legs are healing up exactly as they should be and Jake is getting around just fine now. He is a super friendly Great Pyrenees/Labrador retriever mix that family, friends and neighbors will fall in love with. Everybody that meets him just adores him and he is so easy to fall in love with! Jake has a shorter easy-care coat, heavy on the lab side of things, yet the gentle mellow personality of a Pyrenees - he is the best of both worlds. Jake is doing so well with his current foster family who cared for him throughout his recovery, but since he is doing so well now he casually steps over their 3 foot fence to go visit the neighbors. As much as they would love to keep him, they are hoping to see him go off to the very best family. Despite a very rough start, Jake is a well- rounded super happy go lucky boy and he does not live in the past. He looks forward to each day as a new beginning. He is a super smart, smiley happy young dog who deserves the very best after all he has been through. Jake will go to the door when he has to be let out and he sits and waits patiently at meal time for his food - what great doggie manners! Jake has a great prognosis, and his broken legs are well on the mend. He is ready to head off to the next chapter and a great new home or foster home. Please consider adopting this big, tall, loveable smiley beast - you will not be sorry. Jake's absolute favorite activities include snuggling with his people and favorite dogs (by snuggling, we mean that he will literally crawl on top of your lap to snooze!) He likes leash walks and car rides and hanging out in the back yard with his dog pals. A tall fence would be best for Jake so he will not feel the urge to wander and make friends with the neighbors. Jake is off crate rest but still has some recovering to do - he is ready and waiting to become your new best friend!
