This is an old chair from the Victorian era. It is all hand carved, oak, I believe. It is in good condition. Originally there was a caned seat and at some point someone covered it. I think the seat and the back fabric section needs to be replaced to make it more comfortable. There are carved lions and a shield on the top, carving on either side of the seat back and the seat has carving around three sides. I have seen other chairs like this (believe it came from England, most of the ones I have found have been on Ebay, UK) and most do not have the carving along the seat back, rather they have long rectangular stiles.
