Description

  My story

Arlena, Dreamer, Faylene, Glaciene, Heathenna, Icee, Junebug, Osirus, Purell, and Curelle came to the shelter as a group from unknown circumstances. They were held as strays, but no owner came forward. As such, we do not know any history on these dogs, other than what we have been able to observe at the shelter.

These pups were initially very shy and nervous, although most of them have become more bold and inquisitive during their stray hold period.

It seems clear to us that they have little to no indoor experience, as they are extremely uncomfortable walking on concreate or linoleum indoors, are not familiar with leash walking, and should not be considered housebroken.

They also appear to be unfamiliar with a house and chain, a common setup for many outdoor sled dog-type dogs, which may mean that they were housed in a pen outside. Because these dogs arrived together, and have done well with each other, we believe they should do fine with other dogs, although appropriately slow introductions with new canine friends should always be performed. We have no information on whether these dogs have ever interacted with cats, small animals, livestock or children.

As huskies as a breed tend to have high prey drives, introductions to little critters like cats or pocket pets should be done cautiously!

Siberian Huskies are an intelligent, independent and VERY active breed. These dogs were bred for great physicality and action, and may become bored and destructive if not provided with appropriate levels of mental and physical stimulation.

PLEASE do your research on this breed and be prepared to meet their needs. Due to these particular dogs being currently lacking in socialization and the typical indoor pet dog manners, we HIGHLY recommend attending basic obedience courses with your new friend. Icee is enthusiastic, but may need some assistance with manners. Icee likes to jump and climb, which is not always fun for wimpy humans that lack a thick fur covering! Icee is very worried about food and appears to have some food aggression- it would be best to feed Icee separately from any other pets, and potentially consult a trainer on how to help her work with this issue. We are requiring that Icee goes to a home without children under 5 years old.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt *ICEE, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
