Perhaps they bit off more than they can chew with a new baby and another dog & cat...Unfortunately it is Alfie who ends up on the short end of the stick leaving a family he loves... We are committed to Alfie as we are to all of our MHLM pups, so if he is not the right dog for this family... We will find Alfie his most perfect family who will love him and see his puppy energy as a positive!Alfie is wonderful and gentle with the family toddler who loved Alfie.Smart and very food motivated, Alfie picks up new skills easily & is a high energy confident pupAlthough he has never hurt the family cat, the family does not like how Alfie looks at the cat and sometimes paws & chases himAlfie’s Foster Mom here. I got him on Saturday 3/19/22, here’s what I see so far.General infoI’m told the original adopters did a dna test and he came back as a “super mutt”. The guy told me they really wanted a lab for their daughter to grow up with and while he was very good with her (a toddler), they had not bonded with Alfie. Totally calm in the car. Makes my dog look like a jerk.He IS Housebroken, but does not know how to ASK to be let out. He figured out the doggy door quickly and actually took himself out to poop in the middle of the night the first night I had him – Bravo! He gets it! TRAINABLE. That being said, one day I removed the dog door because it was so windy outside. Alfie did not know how to ask to go out and had a pee accident in the house. When he first came to me, he went upstairs to explore and when he didn’t come down it became apparent that he had never seen stairs before! I spent 30 minutes sitting and coaxing with treats. Then he was a pro, no problem at all. TRAINABLE.Crate – I was told he will go in if told “go to bed” but that’s not what’s happening at this point. I can coax him in with treats but he doesn’t just go in on command. Once he’s in, he’s fine.Walking on leash – pretty good when it’s just the 2 of us UNTIL he sees a squirrel or rabbit. Then he pulls and sings like a husky. Needs training on this. PersonalityWith me, Alfie is calm, sweet, a good mix of independent and affectionate. He likes being loved on, but is not needy. He will come check in and lean on me, but not for too long. In the evening he likes to sneak up on the sofa behind me and snuggle / snooze.Playful, not aggressive with dogs. LOVES the dog park!!! I was told he enjoyed daycare and his previous Papa took him on leash running and hiking.Quiet in the house but also happy to play assertively with my 2 year old dog. Vocal when excited. Sings like a Husky at times.Loves his antlers and chew bones. What he is good atAdorable!SmartSweet personality99.9% HousebrokenGreat in carGreat in crateTrainableFood motivatedSnuggle-ableHe is SO much better than my own pup at some things! Doesn’t jump on people, doesn’t mouth on people. And he looks super handsome with his new red collar, harness and leash! What he needs work onThe usual one year old puppy stuff!Wants to see out the windows at home, will jump on furniture to get a better view at times, especially if there are people or squirrels or rabbits outside.Needs work on walking on leash, ignoring distractions.
