My story
02/25/22 Hertha is a very sweet girl who may take some time warming up to strangers. She was timid at first with her animal tenders but has become rather affectionate now that she knows us better. Hertha actually walks well on a leash and seems to do well inside keeping her kennel fairly clean, so could potentially transition to an indoor pet quite easily. She came in with a larger group of huskies that have only lived outside and are most likely not housebroken, so potential owners should keep this in mind if intending to make any of them pet dogs. Although they were raised as sled dogs, their mushing history and line is unknown. Hertha can be a bit of a finicky eater, so especially in the cold months if she is outside her owner will need to ensure she is eating enough to maintain a healthy weight! Huskies are a high energy breed that will require an outlet such as skijoring, canicross, or a big yard to play in! It is unknown how any of these dogs will do with smaller animals, such as cats or pocket pets. However, huskies tend to have a high prey drive, so extreme caution should be used when introducing them to such animals. Hertha has been friendly towards most of her neighbors in the dog yard, but has shown some sass toward the other female next door during feeding and may grab dogs walking past when she is excited. We recommend introducing her to any new doggy companions in a controlled environment. If you are interested in meeting Hertha, or any of her husky friends, please give the shelter a call!
