Emerson Electric Production Co. was developed in 1890 by John Wesley Emerson. Initially, they made related products and electrical motors, such as buttons. Over the years they increased various other products to their line, consisting of workdesk followers and ceiling fans.
Starting in 1948 (and probably earlier) they made a couple of woodworking equipments for Sears Roebuck. As an example, the 1948 Artisan brochure features the Design HUNDRED tablesaw as "Emerson saws"; examples of this saw have version numbers starting with 113, which matches to Emerson Electric Co
. Many of the Specialist woodworking equipments during that time were made by King-Seeley Corp., nevertheless.
In 1962 Emerson purchased all King-Seeley Corp.'s design licenses, tooling, and components for Sears, Roebuck & & Co. Specialist and Dunlap lines. Emerson started production of equipments in 1964.
In 1990, Leroy-Somer Canada Ltd., Granby, QC, was acquired by the U. S. Electric Motors division of Emerson. The Granby plant was enclosed 1992; manufacturing for the Canadian market relocated to USEM's Markham plant, yet then that plant was closed in 1993.
Emerson shed their Sears deal around 1998, however they started making the Ridgid line of stationary energy devices for Residence Depot. The Emerson Device Co. (a division of Emerson Electric Co.) no longer makes woodworking machines (they make store vacuums), and the Ridgid brand woodworking equipments are made in other places.
Handbooks and components are still available online.
