Harry's story

　　Our little Harry (known in the wild as a puppy bear cub) had a rough start in life, but hes now living the good life in foster care. A volunteer first encountered Harry on Dec. 12, 2018, after stopping to offer a homeless woman a blanket as evening temps were dropping. A mangy little puppy unexpectedly scampered out from from the womans makeshift home for the night. After getting a better look at the pup, the volunteer quickly realized the hairless and lethargic pup needed medical attention. She took the woman and the puppy to an ER clinic, but they were not equipped to treat his mange. They gave him fluids, a dewormer and food but were unable to keep him overnight due to treating several parvo pups. The volunteer called other ER clinics and all were dealing with parvo pups which would have been a great risk to Harry. The volunteer was leaving town very early the next morning, so she heartbreakingly returned the woman and her pup to the street with a promise to track them down upon returning from her trip. On Dec. 16, 2018, the volunteer found them and after much discussion (and providing food and toiletries), the woman who was dealing with drug addiction and supposedly working to get into rehab, agreed to turn her puppy over to Povertys Pets for a better life. She loved her little companion but knew she couldnt give him the life he deserved.

　　Harry was in such bad shape that it was difficult to determine his breed. He suffered from mange, a secondary infection, fleas and malnourishment. After antibiotics, flea treatment, medicated baths, ointment, nutritional puppy food and a safe, loving home, Harry began to blossom into a beautiful and spunky little spaniel.

　　Now that he feels good, Harry is ALL puppy. Hes a curious little explorer and loves toys (and baskets!). He needs a patient, loving home that will provide him with stability and structure and reward-based training. Hes already learning sit, nice, leave it and off. He adores playing with other dogs which helps burn off some of that puppy energy, so another tolerant dog or two in the house is a must.
