Hank's story
As if we didn't have enough medical misfits around here.... We scooped up this handsome old fella from Philly's urgent list and we are calling him Hank! Hank was estimated to be 14 years old and was found as a stray, eating garbage from a dumpster on 52nd St in Philadelphia. Due to his physical condition, Hank was timestamped and a plea went out for a rescue to pull what they believed to be a hospice dog. Lucky for Hank, we had just the right foster available who happens to have a soft spot for seniors.
Hank had an appointment with the vet. Come to find out Hank is only about 9-10 years old. He has a nasty bacterial infection in both his ears and has canine degenerative myelopathy. In English, degenerative mylopethy is a progressive disease of the spinal cord which weakens the limbs until the point where eventually, the dog can no longer walk. Hank is a little wobbly in the hind end, but he still gets around just fine. While the degenerative mylopethy will eventually debilitate Hank, he has made it clear he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. This is fabulous news, and means Hank is in fact, NOT HOSPICE!! Yay!!
This means, we are now in search of a more appropriate adoptive home for Hank. Hank is friendly with other dogs, never met a person he hasnt liked (kids included!) and has done well with all but one of the fosters cats (he does chase one of them). We don't know what Hank has been through in the past, but he deserves to live out the rest of his life with a family who will give him a warm place to snuggle, oodles of love and everyday meals that he doesn't have to dumpster dive to find!
