My story
Gabby and Grunter are two bonded Chihuahuas that were recently surrendered to the shelter. They're bonded adoption fee is $200. They each weigh about 8 pounds and are currently in a foster home where they are being spoiled If you'd like to meet with them contact the shelter today! Notes from Foster Parent: They were very passive and docile, upon arrival at the house, but they gained confidence in a week and are still very sweet natured. They respond instantly to tone of voice. They know the words, potty, outside and No and they stop whatever they are doing when told No. When off leash in the yard, they are easily directed to follow. They know how to Stay when told to. They crouch down when approached to be picked up and never try to run away. The female flips completely over and wags her tail. She likes to be picked up that way.
As well trained as they are, they don't understand Sit unless they are on a higher plane than the floor. They get excited when they see the leashes and are ok when snapping the attachment. When opening the car door, they jump right in! They sit quietly on a blanket in the backseat. They are cuddly and affectionate. They prefer burrowing deep into a blanket especially at night and will push to go under the sheet and sleep up against a person if permitted. It's cold weather right now and they shiver and need to keep warm. I now understand why Chihuahuas wear sweaters. The rain is another story, they don't like the feeling of raindrops. We set up a place in the garage for emergencies as the rain has been steady this week. Our outdoor cat likes to come in the house during the day and night.
We had a time training the dogs not to charge the cat.
We held them at first till they got used to the cat walking around. Now they can be in the same room, but they will chase after the cat at times if not restrained. They have good appetites and eat twice a day. They like treats and toys. They play, wrestle, chase each other and follow each other around. I haven't noticed a leader between the two.
They like each other and are bonded.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Grunter, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
