My story
Grace (calling her Birdee) is a calm and affectionate pup! She’s great at being lazy and genuinely think she’s one of the all time best cuddlers! She’s decent on a leash and getting better everyday. We are currently working on her reactivity to other dogs on walks and will need to continue training for that. Birdee is great in the car, even on long car rides into the mountains. She is gentle with our old dog and likes to crawl into bed with her for cuddles. She’s truly just a very sweet, squishy hound! She’s slightly hesitant to meet people, but warms up very quickly and is cuddling within minutes! While she has some work ahead of her with meeting other dogs, I’m confident she’ll get through it quickly and everything else about her is just about as perfect as you could hope for in a dog with trauma. Plus she might have powers with her one ice blue eye.

A little bit more info:
Her recall is really great even with food, squirrels, other distractions (except dogs right now). She definitely responds to her name now, Birdee or Bird, so we hope her forever people will keep the name.
She is treat motivated and learning commands fast!
She’s a great trail dog and will stop and hang out while you’re taking a break or birdwatching.

She needs someone that is okay to work with her on leash reactivity and meeting other dogs. It could be she’s just excited to meet, but expect some time if you already have a dog or friends with dogs. That said..she never snapped at our dog only growled and they were snuggling by the end of the day.
We are unsure how she is with kids or cats. It would be good to manage meeting kids the first few times until you know for sure. But I think she’d be fine with lots of treats and a calm intro. Id only be ok with cats if the adopter has experience introducing new dogs to cats.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Grace aka Birdee, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
