An original 1954 Gibson Les Paul in excellent condition. The iconic Les Paul model was first introduced in 1952, but it had a bridge that was quite inconvenient to use. The company replaced it in 1953 with a more functional design, but it still lacked the necessary angle. Foreign sources from 1954 describe it as a "Great example of a 'wraptail' Goldtop with corrected neck angle - for many players, this third version (second would be the 1953 thin ear tailpiece with slightly adjusted neck angle) is the perfect Les Paul". This makes 1954 the first year of the truly 'correct' Les Paul, as most sources indicate that all the initial issues were resolved by then. Even custom shop reissues start with R4, with R2 and R3 versions not being produced. This instrument was built using classic techniques: a beautifully structured redwood body with a maple top, redwood neck, and a dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboard (a common material at the time). It features the legendary P-90 pickups, and since humbuckers were not available then, these old P-90s are powerful and can easily outperform humbuckers, offering a rich sound both on overdrive and clean settings. They are far superior to modern P-90s, which often muddy the sound (although there might be good options, modern guitars with P-90s to me sound good only on clean or light drive). The instrument has been played and stored carefully, maintaining its collectible value. Only things like frets and the nut have been changed - akin to tires on a car, they wear out over time. Everything else, including the case, remains original, with no repaints or repairs. Notably, this guitar features the very first Les Paul color, Goldtop, in its most authentic shade. It's lightweight, comfortable to play, has an incredibly great sound, and of course, is highly valuable, marking the beginning of a full-fledged history from 1954. It comes with the original case.
