German Shepherd Dog - Remi - Large - Adult - Male - Dog
Sometimes things happen in our lives that continue to have a impact on us long after the event happened. That's what happened to Remi when some small dogs attacked him when he was young and he just can't forget it no matter how hard he tries. Remi goes to doggie day care where he loves to play with dogs his size and likes to play chase. Or more accurately, "catch me if you can" because he likes to be chased rather than the chaser! Remi's human dad worked from home so Remi is accustomed to having someone home with him. Because of numerous surgeries, his human dad is no longer able to care for him so he is reluctantly returning Remi to Rescue from whom he was adopted a few years ago. Remi has been around teenagers and did fine but he's a bit too rough and tumble for small children. Remi is a high energy dog who loves to run and needs a home with a big yard in which to run. With Remi's high energy level, some of our kennel volunteers suggested that he might enjoy a sheep herding experience. (We may not be New Zealand or Australia but believe it or not, there are facilities in San Diego where you can do just that! Just check out some of the photos!) The first step was to be evaluated. Remi could not have done better. He is a natural! He behaved beautifully with the humans and several dogs (most of whom were off leash) at the facility. He even liked the lady with the big stick who coached him during the session. Remi wants to make certain you read about the sheep because without sheep, there obviously is no opportunity to herd. The sheep are quite well trained and they know what to do when a beginner enters the pen. They waited until the lady with the stick tried to connect with Remi (that took a minute or two). Then they started running and teasing our sweet dog until he decided to show them why he looks like a cattle dog. It was a lot of fun for Remi. Rumor has it that our volunteers loved it as well. Remi was very proud of himself and when his session ended, he wanted to enter another pen and work the sheep there! Not surprisingly, we enrolled him in the beginners class which starts soon. We know that counting sheep as they jump over a fence is a sure way to fall asleep at night. We also know that Remi slept well as he dreamed about all the sheep whom he soon could herd. Good night and sweet dreams, Remi! Please visit / to learn more about our dogs. Click on available dogs to see further descriptions. If you are interested in me, please contact Teresa at [email removed]. or call (858) . Don't forget to fill out our online application. The minimum adoption donation ranges from $300 to $400. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100%25 tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems. Our adoption process begins with completing an application on-line. A phone screening will soon follow, and lastly a home visit will be conducted by our volunteers.
