German Shepherd Dog - Dixie - Foster Needed - Medium - Adult

　　Foster Home Desperately Needed: Dixie would do so much better in a calm household where she can stay inside. She is fine with other dogs her size but no cats. She is still very nervous at our Dog Adoption Facility. Please contact us if you would be interested in fostering. We provide everything!!

　　The heart of this Dixie is ready to open up and love one lucky family!

　　Dixie is a gorgeous three year old female German Shepherd/Husky mix. She has a thick blonde coat and is not as big as a German Shepherd because she weighs only 32 pounds. Poor Dixie has been on her own as a stray for many, many months and we feel she had been deserted. She was being fed by a good HSWA friend/supporter over in Alberta. She had been vetted after the tornado so she wasn't one lost due to the storm. Animal Control was finally able to catch her but she was not doing well down at our local shelter. She was scared to death and just curled up at the end of her kennel all day. So she was slated to be put down. We had heard about her and knew to look for her so we pulled her out just in time.

　　Dixie is a very sweet dog -- not an aggressive bone in her body. BUT she is very shy and skittish. She will need lots of patience and TLC to help build up her confidence and teach her to be more social. But we truly believe it will be well worth it. She will need a quiet and rather calm home with no young children or cats, since she will aggressively go after them. She would get along with other dogs in the home as long as they are rather mild. Dixie will require a fenced in yard because she will not come back to you if called. Dixie may be ok in an apartment but will need some daily exercising and must be on a leash anytime she goes outside. We hope to report improvement as we have her and can work with her. Dixie is up to date on her vet care, spayed and is heartworm negative. She is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.
