Frederich Holtier Signed Concert Classical Guitar 1997
The sound of this guitar will rival many guitars in the
$6,000-$8,000 price range.
Based on its appearance,
this guitar was very lightly played over its lifetime and spent most of its
time in its case, which is evident by the absence of nail marks on
the soundboard. Still, its sound has the fullness, robustness, depth and
sustain that would meet the demands of many professional classical guitarists. It
has a deep, warm, rich and powerful voice that if desired, could also sound
quite bright.
This guitar it is in
excellent cosmetic condition. From a 2.5-3 ft distance it looks near
mint, but it does have a few
small dings. I tried to show them in the last several pictures.
The specs are as follows:
Scale length: 648 mm.
53 mm
nut, 45 mm string spacing at nut, 60 mm string spacing at saddle (+/- 0.5
mm).
480 mm
body length.
369 mm
lower bout width, 280 mm upper bout width (+/- 1 mm).
Body
depth 100 mm (+/- 1 mm).
12th fret
action: 4.0 mm and 3.0 mm (6th string and 1st string).
Top: 1/4
sawn spruce with nice birds-eye figure (per F. Holtier).
Back and
sides: 1/4 sawn Indian rosewood.
Bridge: Brazilian rosewood.
Fingerboard: ebony.
Headplate: Brazilian
rosewood.
TKL
arched case in very good condition (it has a slight closet smell).
Some issues that could be addressed:
Hauser-style Schaller tuners work well, but the 3rd and
4th-string keys are slightly bent.
There is practically
no fret buzz on any string. However, when the open 6th string is struck
with authority, it generates a rattling sound. Perhaps, the fretboard
would benefit from some professional attention.
The neck is
relatively deep, flat-D shape. It’s good for people with large hands, but
could be a little difficult for smaller hands.
