Up for sale is an exceptionally unusual 'For Your Consideration' VHS screener copy Box Set for the film DEAD MAN WALKING, initially launched in 1995 by Gramercy Pictures. The Box Set Includes:.
- a "Special Academy Screening Copy" of the film on VHS.
- a cassette single (still sealed) showcasing three tunes from the soundtrack release.
- a letter dated December 6th, 1995 from Gramercy President Russell Schwartz which briefly discusses both the film and the Box Set (does NOT contain an initial signature).
- a list of theatrical screenings for Academy members.
- a 2 piece, handmade wooden storage box.
The concept behind this item was to garner attention from Academy members for potential Oscar elections. As of the writing of the letter, the film wasn't set up to be launched into theaters till the very end of December- then only in New York and Los Angeles (basic release was early the following year). In addition to being able to see the VHS copy, Academy members were invited to go to any of various screenings in December and January.
General everything is in great (though definitely not brand name brand-new) condition. There are a few minor dings and marks on the wooden box, the cardboard VHS sleeve has some marks along the edges, and the paper the letters are printed on have actually aged a bit as far as their color goes. That being stated, this is all to be gotten out of something that's 18 years of ages. The VHS tape has not been tested as I do not have a VCR to play it on, however anybody who purchases this is doing this for the originality of the overall bundle rather than simply wishing to see the motion picture on a VHS format.
