My story

　　My name is Florence. I am a 2-year-old Basset mix who marches to the beat of my own drum, a very slow drum. I am an old soul living in a young pup body and take my time doing everything. Sure, stairs are no issue for me but I take each one very carefully and slowly. I love being out in the yard and wandering slowly just taking in all the life around me. I came to BROOD after I was found as a stray so nothing is known about my prior life. I must have been part of a family at some point because I fit right in at my foster home as if I lived there forever!I am crate-trained and working on my house training. I try to let my family know when I want to go out but instead of going to the door or barking, I walk around their kitchen table instead. So it's a little hard for them to notice unless they are watching me. And speaking of barking, I am a rather vocal girl. I bark at people walking by, other dogs outside, my foster siblings to get them to play, and at loud noises when I am startled. My foster family is helping me to learn when it's appropriate to bark but until that time, close-quarter living isn't for me.I love going on long slow walks. But will pull and tug to follow any scent worth following. I will need a secure fenced area or always leashed when outside so I don't wander away, chasing after smells. I love people, children, and dogs and have a gentle, sweet disposition with all I meet. I love chew toys, especially the tough fabric kind, and can entertain myself while you are busy doing people stuff. I will happily follow my family around, waiting for them to settle for the night, so I can snuggle and cuddle the night away!I am ready for my forever family to take it one slow step at a time! 　　We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania.

　　Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state.

　　We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference.

　　The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records.

　　The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup.

　　Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record.
