My story
Please go to our website at to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application. Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.General Notes | Banzai is such a sweet, gentle soul. He is a perfect mix of playful and lazy - he’s great at knowing the energy level of the humans and dogs in the home and matching it. His foster dad works from home, and he is quiet during the work day, but he is playful when the toys come out. He loves his bed and will gladly spend lots of quiet time there. His foster mom works away from home and Banzai can go hours without needing to go potty. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Health Notes | He has some vision loss but that doesn't stop him from playing. Since he has been in foster care, he is gaining weight and his fur is growing back. The vet has said we might be able to avoid progressive vision loss, but not entirely sure yet. At his recent dermatologist visit, she said she is optimistic he will regrow most or all of his hair back.Other Dogs | He has been great with all other dogs (who are patient and understand his vision is limited). He would benefit from having a resident doggie help him understand the rules of the house and where to go. Cats | Banzai is very interested in kitties and will try to chase them.Children | He loves all people and his foster thinks he would be fine with older kiddos who understand that he has limited vision.Training | He is house trained. He is also comfortable in a car (once he’s lifted up) and rides quietly. Banzai is quiet in a crate and will happily spend time and eat his meals there - he just needs to be shown where it is. Repetition (and not moving things around too much!) is key for his special guy! Leash | He does very well on a leash and he is easy to leash up and does well with following the direction of his people.Activity Level | He is a bouncy and fun pup who has cute puppy tendencies (like loving toys) without excessive energy.Personality | He would be a great match for almost any family - an on the go outdoor family who understands he needs extra guidance due to his limited vision - and even a single person or a couple who are homebodies. Banzai learns his surroundings (both inside and outside) quickly so please don’t let his limited vision stop you from considering him. Story | Banzai found himself on the euthanasia list at an open admission Houston shelter, after his owner passed away. Banzai was left in the home with the deceased owner for a period of time before being picked up and transferred to the shelter. MHLM got to him just in time! Though he looks a little rough, with some patience, love and good food, he is blossoming in to an extra special, sweet, and healthy companion who has lots of years left to enjoy life with a very lucky family. Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Puppies to 1 year - $425, 1-6 years - $375, 7-10 years - $325, and 11+ years - $175. Purebreds are $475 regardless of age. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $600 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. February 9, 2023, 8:31 pm
