In 29 years of fly fishing I have tried almost every chest, sling, hip pack and vest ever made. I'm so picky and none of them is ever quite perfect. Lately I keep flipping back-and-forth trying to decide chest versus sling. Right now I swing towards sling. Because I often fish two-handed, I prefer for the gear to be behind me. This one is so small and unobtrusive in its vertical configuration, it almost fits the bill. But I guess I'm going to stick with my sling. So if
you're a chest pack person and are looking for a high-quality, minimalist chest pack, get one here in great condition at a reasonable price.Between the various compartments and 7 tabs for tool and accessory attachment on the front of the pack, there’s room for all your essential tools and at least a couple of fly boxes right up front and handy. FishPond says four boxes but they must not be using the big articulated streamer box that I use. But I don't doubt 4 slim boxes would fit. There is one larger zippered pocket to carry those fly boxes and a second smaller zippered pocket that functions as a flip down fly bench. The bench includes a FishPond Tacky Mat that attaches with Velcro. This fly mat features silione anchoring technology designed to hold up to 90 flies. You can buy additional 3X5 Tacky Mats directly from FishPond which you allows you to quickly switch a panel of flies depending upon your needs. Honestly, I don't use the pad and typically inserted an extra fly box in that pocket. So the Tacky Mat is essentially unused.
There are 4 additional smaller accessory pockets inside and out for tippet spools, split shot, indicators, licenses and all the other stuff you can’t fish without.
One of the pictures shows my pack fully loaded with accessories just for further explanation of how well designed this pack actually is. Accessories in that photo are not included in this sale. The detachable back panel has an integrated slot to hold your long handled net and a D-ring attachment where shorter nets might be attached with a zinger (not included).
If you have a FishPond backpack, remove this back panel and this chest pack mounts to your backpack shoulder straps. Furthermore, there is a belt pass-through slot in the back of the pack in case you wish to wear it on your wading belt or incorporate in FishPond's proprietary Switchback Wading System.
The FishPond attachment buckle system that connects the chest pack to the back panel (or to one of their backpacks if you choose to buy one)
is ingenious and so easy to release using just one hand. The pack is constructed of 420D nylon recycled Cyclepond fabric which is light and strong.I have used this pack a very little so it’s in really great condition. There’s no significant wear or soiling. You will notice that I have 100% customer rating. That’s because I take really good care of my equipment and I describe my items accurately with reasonable pricing. Are you looking for a super well designed and constructed, minimalist
