Fergus-Courtesy List's story
Fergus, neutered male, DOB 10/24/2016
redbone/black and tan coonhound mix, 74 lbs Fergus was purchased at four weeks old from a farmer/hunter. The owners had never had a coonhound before and were unprepared for his energy level. Because they had a toddler, he was kept outside. It appears he had very limited socialization. He responds inappropriately to dogs and is reactive. He is not food or toy aggressive but will growl if he is trying to get attention and another dog walks up. He has never started a fight but will growl a lot. Super affectionate with people and very trainable. He is treat motivated and knows sit and down (about 80%) of the time. He walks fairly well on a leash/harness but could use work, especially as he is reactive when he sees another dog. He is leery of meeting new people but recovers quickly if they allow him to come to them rather than they try to go to him. He suffers from allergy-related ear infections, which currently are being controlled with diet and Missing Link. He is crate-trained and house broken with a doggie door. I just started him on Prozac to see if it would help balance him out with new situations and situations that unnerve him at home. Hes not over the top crazy and I think he would thrive in an active home that can put more time into his training. The meds are only for his current living situation as it appears a bit overwhelming to him at times. Due to his lack of understanding of normal social skills, I would not recommend he goes to a home with small children. If interested in more information about Fergus call
